My work keeps me sane

So, here we are—September 2025! Can you believe we’re juggling not just kids, chaos, and crumbs but also the wild world of work? Honestly, sometimes I feel like I’ve signed up for the Olympic sport of multitasking—full-time parenting and full-time working. (Spoiler alert: there are no medals, just cold cups of tea and the occasional dry shampoo victory.)

If you asked me a few years ago whether I’d want to work in education while raising a small army of children, I might have laughed so hard I’d choke on my custard cream. But here I am! And you know what? As exhausting as it sounds, it’s also one of the most rewarding things in my life.

Here’s the plot twist: my students actually seek me out. Yep, little ol’ me! They come for guidance, support, and sometimes just to have a chat when the world feels heavy. And let me tell you, nothing makes me feel more alive (or more needed) than those moments. It’s like my daily reminder that even though I can’t always get my washing machine to cooperate, I can make a difference in someone else’s day.

And then there are my colleagues. Oh my word—these are some of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. We’re talking proper banter, inside jokes that keep us sane, and the rare but oh-so-magical moments when someone actually makes me a coffee. I mean, HELLO? An adult makes me a coffee that I didn’t have to reheat three times in the microwave? Bliss!

So yeah, people might think I’m mad for saying this, but I’m happiest at work. For me, work isn’t just a paycheck—it’s my social life, my laughter, my community. Because let’s be real: at home, the only adult conversation I get usually involves arguing over whether Peppa Pig or Bluey is the superior show (spoiler: Bluey wins, hands down).

Without my job, my world feels a bit… empty. But with it, I’ve got balance, banter, and a reason to put on actual clothes that don’t have a suspicious yoghurt stain down the front. And honestly? I’m okay with that. Scratch that—I’m more than okay. I’m grateful.

So, to all the parents out there who feel guilty for loving their jobs: don’t! If your work gives you joy, connection, and the occasional free latte, embrace it with both hands (and probably a messy bun). Because you’re not just a worker, and you’re not just a parent—you’re a human who deserves to be happy in all areas of life.

Here’s to the remainder of 2025—filled with laughter, work friends who feel like family, and the glorious chaos of juggling it all. We’ve got this!

Until next time, keep it real (and a bit messy)!
