How I Keep Things Tidy (Mostly!) in Our House.
Let's be real- keeping a house tidy with kids is like trying to catch confetti in a storm. But over the years, I've picked up a few tricks that help keep the chaos somewhat manageable:
Everyone Has A Job.
Yup, i believe in dividing and conquering. Each kid has their own jobs- whether it's tidying their toys, putting away clothes, or helping clear and wash the dishes. Even the little ones get involved! it's not about being perfect; it's about teamwork. Plus, it's hilarious to see a 7- year-old wielding the duster like a pro.
Everything has a place.
If stuff doesn’t have a home, it’s just floating around, waiting to trip you up. So, we do a bit of organising—toy soldiers in the box, shoes by the door, school stuff in the basket—wherever it’s supposed to be, really. Honestly, the only thing that’s in the right place is the chocolate stash, and that’s because I hide it so well even I forget where it is. (NOT)
We have a routine: Play Time, Tidy Up Time & Quiet Time.
There is no holy trinity:
Play Time: Chaos-central. The kids are running wild, building forts, throwing pillows- Life is an adventure.
Tidy Up Time: Race against the clock! Dressing up in one drawer, Lego in the Lego box. Whoever tidies the fastest wins... Well, nothing, but at least the house is kind of back to normal.
Quiet Time: Ahhh, My favourite part. Drawing, Crafting, or curled up with their gadgets while i get a breather- otherwise known as Mom Time, which is often just a long blink.
Sure, I don't always win at this game- I've been known to pretend i didn't see the mountain of laundry or hide in the snack cupboard for a peace break- but most days, we manage to keep it kinda- sorta together. And honestly, that's more than enough.
Because, lets be honest, a house without a few rogue Lego bricks or sticky fingers is just a building- What we really want is a home filled with endless adventures of chaos.
